Fuck Obama (yeah right)

The only thing he’s done is make it where insurance rates in 2014 will come back down to roughly where they were at when the bill was signed! He made it slightly easier for people with pre-existing conditions to get coverage at some point in the future yet to be determined! Are you mad because he closed Gitmo? Because he didn’t! Thanks to Republican assholes crying not in my back yard! Even though there are prisoners in American prisons who have done a hell of lot worse than being Muslim in the wrong place at the wrong time, which half the people still left in Gitmo are guilty of! Do you hate Obama because he ended the two wars we are in! He didn’t do that either, in fact he ramped up Bush’s anti-terrorist policies and carried the banner of bullshit into Libya! He has continued the practice of rendition and just kept a guy on boat for two months without charging him with anything! Is it because he hasn’t been friendly enough to Big Business? He’s kept the stupid Bush Tax cuts in place which has worked so well for the economy! You mad that he bailed out the auto industry? Those are real jobs he saved, real average workers, at least he didn’t bail out Wall Street like old Bush did-oh wait-he did that too! Continue reading Fuck Obama (yeah right)

The Brink of Insanity!

In 1980 the Republicans retook power with Ronald Regan-an actor-and they turned back the clock on everything that Carter had tried to accomplish. They used his name throughout the eighties to keep the Democrats at bay and by just invoking it they made them cower and kowtow to their bullshit. They widened the gulf between the rich and the poor and did everything they could to destroy the middle class. The Republicans used the falsehood of fiscal conservatism to mask their religious right agenda and roll America back to some false nineteen-fifty’s ideal where women and minorities knew their place. History Made!

From the students from Selma, to the Tuskegee Airman, those who made the journey and braved the frigid temperatures bear witness to history. As I sit alone in Oakland, California (half a world away) I bear witness in awe. My hands are shaking as I hold my head and view the coming change. It is more than the undeniable charisma of one man; it is instead the collective dreams of a nation come to beautifully vivid reality. This moment possible because of millions who wished it so. Still trying to find the words

Two days removed from the historic election, I am still trying to find the words to describe how I feel. The joy and elation (now ebbing), and giving way to nervousness and uncertainty. Not for the country, not for the man, but for us. As I rode the bus yesterday I heard the cheers and chants of the young kids not old enough to vote. In the morning they were jubilant and full of promise, by mid afternoon they had degenerated into mindlessness and foolishness. The happy Obama chants had become the stoned stupid cries of high kids on the back off the bus. It was disheartening because I know it was not isolated to the bus I was riding.I had heard the stories during the day of the celebrations throughout the streets of Oakland and the idiocy that marred the event. Change or Die!

I’ve been thinking of how I was going to end this. The most important election cycle of my life (to date), has been filled with the most blogs I have ever written or posted (to date). I have followed each and every up and down, twist and turn for the last eighteen months. It has been serious at times, humorous at others. I have had my doubts and fears, and moments of joy and pride. I have debated the merits of Hillary Clinton and John McCain versus our next President Barack Obama. I have argued and admired with others. I have delved into this process far more than even I would have thought. It is no small event. The historic nature is of course the draw. The possibility and symbolism of a black U.S. president is no small feat. Continue reading Change or Die!
